I’m drawn to wild clays & ‘direct-action’ making… simple tools & processes…

My work variously refers to & involves clay-glaze materials and processes at source…

Land shapes, quarries, mines, rivers, the places that yield the raw materials and our engagements with them: Architectures of excavation & forming.. accretion, casting…

All these things are to do with vessels, open, filled, up-ended, stacked… the road leads back to our ancestors – the neolithic beaker people (2300 B.C. Stonehenge era..).

I’m inspired by the telling fact that clay quarries are often also landfill sites.

As the story seems to be coming full circle – as the truth about materials (stuff) & our relationship with them emerges – our need to know about & listen to the “earth” is as relevant today…
